New York City has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around our fantastic city that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Traver Rains, one half of the infamous former fashion brand Heatherette with Richie Rich, has since embarked on his own line. Called T. Rains, it's a collection of women's and men's clothing that takes its inspiration from Rains's Western roots, as well as his many years living in NYC. (He now splits his time between coasts). The brand features everything from silk-screened tank tops and t-shirts to custom dresses, and like Heatherette, the designs are always playful.
If you haven't ventured down to the Lower East Side in a while, it's time you to go check out The Hoodie Shop. It's an amazing place to find all things hooded, from new to vintage. Walking through the doors you're immediately transported into another world by the psychedelic plants that cover the store from floor to ceiling. I also love the fun beats that are blasted through the speakers and the classic concert footage that's projected on the back wall. The shop carries everything from new to old, including outerwear, swimsuits, scarves and more. Not everything in the shop is necessarily a hoodie?.but everything has a hood.· The Hoodie Shop [Official Site]
