Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
If you've ever cursed your local dry cleaner for closing before you get home from work, then DashLocker might be for you. The new service, which just opened its flagship on the Upper East Side, lets you drop off your laundry any time of day. The company picks it up, cleans it using environmentally responsible methods, and texts or emails you when it's ready for pickup.
DashLocker keeps track of customers using PIN numbers; your personal number opens the lockers at the drop-off location. Prices seem reasonable, with a basic wash-and-fold going for $1.25 a pound. (They're also offering 50% off every order through Labor Day as an intro bonus.) The turnaround time is 24 hours, and they'll even do shoes and leather. Right now, the only location is on Second Avenue between 81st and 82nd, but they're planning to open in seven other Manhattan spots (including several downtown) by the end of 2013.
