Charlotte Ronson's seasonal sample sale opened this morning in the designer's midtown showroom to a civilized stream of downtown girls. If you're in the neighborhood, this is a great opportunity to refresh your wardrobe without too much hassle. This sale has got nothing in common with the DVF madness continuing downtown.
Prices are higher than what we've seen at past Ronson sample sales, but we still have nothing to complain about. At 50% to 75% off retail on spring and summer items, accessories start at $5 and nothing costs over $100.
Immediately upon entering the sale, you'll be greeted by a bin of damaged Ronson shoes available for $20 (we saw sizes ranging from 6 to 10) and a box of damaged clothing for $15. Staffers will not be restocking these and the chances of finding something here are slim. After a quick pass, we did find floral wedges and metallic platform pumps in great condition, but the damaged clothing seemed to be on its last leg and probably isn't worth your time.
Once you've scoured the damaged items, spend most of your time in the front alcove where the $40 and $60 racks reside. These are chock full of silk tanks, Breton striped sweaters, sheer blouses, studded rompers, and enough ditzy florals and lace to keep you covered all season long. This room also has a table of shoes and accessories, including wedges for $60 to $80, small leather cross-body bags at $60, and a selection of AKA New York scarves for $80 each.
In the main hallway, you'll spot the $80 and $100 racks. Each of these items exudes Ronson's aesthetic. We were smitten with the midi floral dresses with cut-out backs, maxi crochet dresses, leather jackets, chambray rompers, and cropped graphic print pants.
There appears to be more stock of particular items in the back. Just ask, and the helpful staffers will try to find more sizes for you. We were also totally pleased to see a small communal fitting room with a full sized mirror (we haven't seen this at past Ronson sales).
Be sure to take a pass through the jumbled bin of $10 belts and small selection of jewelry near the cash register. We spotted a turquoise studded leather cuff by Rebecca Minkoff and some Haute Hippie earrings for $30 a pop.
The sale continues at 1071 Avenue of the Americas (suite 301, head left off the elevator) through Friday, June 8th. Sale hours are 10am to 7pm daily. Cash and credit are both accepted.—Kiran
