Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

It's been a while since we've had a good Nordstrom rumor, so here's one to tide you over until the day the retailer finally decides to open up a New York store. The Commercial Observer reports, in an article loaded with real estate lingo, that Nordstrom might be eyeing a spot on the bottom level of the upcoming residential tower One 57, located on West 57th Street.

Rumors have been swirling that Gary Barnett of the Extell Development Company "is lining up a huge retail deal befitting the property," and several sources are saying that it's Nordstrom. What makes them think that? Read on.

One broker wrote in to the CO that Nordsrom "had also looked at his site on 5th Avenue and 47th Street (another development site) with Gary so I would expect they had some dialogue about this site too." Another weighs in that "he hasn't marketed the space openly. That tells me he has a tenant on for the space." Naturally, Gary here hasn't returned any calls for comment, which means there's nothing left for us to do except fuel the fire that Nordstrom might finally descend upon Manhattan.
