Chainsaw at Armor Lux Is a Lot More Mellow Than He Sounds

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

This is Store Sidekicks, an occasional end-of-the-week feature in which we profile the fuzzy wuzzy creatures who inhabit shops around the city. If you'd like to nominate your favorite store animal, drop us a line at tips@racked.com.

Inside Armor Lux in Nolita, you'll find the French heritage brand's signature striped tees and basics, along with additional merchandise from Wool and the Gang. However, Rachael Genter, the shop's manager and buyer, knew the store needed one more thing: a cute shop dog.

Despite the name, Chainsaw, her nine-year-old Shih Tzu/Lhasa Apso mix, is as docile as they come. "He's such a mellow, cool, lazy little guy and he needed something to give him some street cred," she explained. When he was four or five, Rachel adopted him from Social Tees Animal Rescue, who had found him wandering the streets of Harlem. Now, he enjoys laying on his belly on the store's hardwood floors.
