New York City has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around our fantastic city that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Ann Yee launched her namesake women's RTW collection in 2009. The line, which shares her name, is known for its architectural cuts and effortless fluidity in silhouette. Of course, long hours in the studio often lead to snacking, and when Yee needs to get in touch with her inner sweet tooth, she stocks up on goodies on Hester Street.
One of my favorite tucked-away gems is The Sweet Life on the Lower East Side. This one-of-a-kind candy shop has become one of my go-to spots. They have such a special variety of candy from around the globe and lots of goodies you can't find anywhere else in the city.
I went a few weeks ago and picked up some dark chocolate with bacon as well as your must-have Tabasco chocolate. Protein and spice—what else could you ask for in chocolate?!Who wouldn't love a place where the motto is "Anything can be dipped in chocolate"? In addition to all of its yummy candy offerings, The Sweet Life also has tons of delicious dried fruits & flavored nuts galore for those of you trying to be good after all the summertime eating. The charming interior and sweet staff (no pun intended) also add to the appeal. Oh, and they cater too!
