Soho menswear boutique Onassis will open a second location in Rockefeller Center this August, according to Women's Wear Daily. While the address of the new shop is 61 West 49th Street, the building that houses it goes by another name: 30 Rockefeller. That identity that ought to help with sales. Although the new space will be less than half the size of the Soho location, the company thinks it will bring in twice the number of sales per square foot, thanks to all the tourists.
An Onassis VP tells WWD that Rock Center developer Tishman Speyer actually asked the store to move in, presumably as part of the effort to update the area's retail. Free People opened in March, and Longchamp and Aritzia are both planning to move in within the next six months.
