West Village Boutique Castor & Pollux, Sketched

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Welcome to Shops Illustrated, a Racked feature in which artist Jennifer Hoyden sketches New York City stores. For each entry, she'll draw a street view, an interior look, and some items currently hanging on the racks.

Happy Birthday, fellow Geminis! Castor & Pollux are the twin brothers of Greek mythology who represent the astrological sign for June. They've also given their names to a little shop in the West Village that's something of a cult favorite.

The racks at Castor & Pollux are filled with pants and dresses in liquid silk, plus drapey blouses that can coordinate or cheerily clash, depending on your mood. In addition to carrying brands like Anagram and Hache, Castor & Pollux produces some of its own accessories as well. A brand spankin' new Cap Bag just rolled off the production line last week, complete with a convertible strap that doubles as a belt. The Maggie bracelets, in brass, easily pile on the wrist in one of two sizes (or both) for a happy jingle jangle, and are also available with your birthstone. Mother of Pearl, anyone?
