Gordon Espinet of MAC Costmetics recalls the early days of the brand's first store in Greenwich Village. "We opened that store in 1990. Back in those days MAC was like a cult and we would have a line around the corner all the way down Christopher Street for people who wanted to come in. And there were arguments! So we decided we'd hire [legendary drag queen] Lady Bunny as a doorman, and she'd say, 'You—you can't come in. You and your friend, you can come in.' It turned into Studio 54!" [Racked National]
