If yesterday's preview of the Nancy Gonzalez sample sale is any indication of how much women love her bags, then we recommend getting there as early as possible today. The pre-sale started an hour early, and by the time we arrived at the Flatotel on W.52nd Street, the room was buzzing with excitement—not to mention women carrying more bags than their arms could comfortably carry.
Prices go up to 80% off. Exotic skin clutches are $700, small bags are $1,300, medium bags are $1,500, large bags are $1,700, extra large bags are $1,800, fur bags are $1,000 and mixed media bags are $800. The assortment of colors and styles is excellent. In case you get caught up in the frenzy, the price list is displayed on the wall over every table. Clutches and extra large totes appeared to be the most popular items, and only a small selection remained on the tables by the time we got there.
Bag hoarding is rampant at this sale. Go ahead and carry as many bags that will fit on your arms, but when it comes time to sort them out, the staff requests that you do not place them on the floor. The empty table near the front door appears to be dedicated to this purpose. The sale is well-staffed, and the checkout line moves right along.
There will be limited re—stocking throughout the sale. Note that you must check your bag and coat upon entering the sale, and that payment is cash and credit only. The sale runs from today through Thursday, May 10 from 10am to 6pm, Tuesday and Wednesday and 10am to 4pm on Thursday.
