Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Welcome to Shops Illustrated, a Racked feature in which artist Jennifer Hoyden sketches New York City stores. For each entry, she'll draw a street view, an interior look, and some items currently hanging on the racks.

Swing proprietor Helena Green has assembled a very diverse assortment of goods, including Rick Owens's DRKSHDW line; accessories, clothes and stationary made by local artists; and hats handmade in Italy. You'll also find French candles and Moroccan teapots among the merchandise showcased in refurbished display cases. (Salvaged from England, the cases are themselves pieces of art.)

Green is an enthusiastic world travel and her mini department store is filled with her finds. She refers to the boutique as a concept shop, and as far as ideas go, a one-stop-shopping destination in Harlem is a pretty good concept.
