Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Today, the Upper East Side will get significantly more sparkly with the opening of Fabergé's first U.S. boutique at 684 Madison Avenue. WWD reports that the store includes pale gray curtains, a wall covered in purple silk, crystal chandeliers, lavender vintage chairs, and all the bejeweled egg pendants and diamond-encrusted necklaces you could ever want under one lavish roof.

For the record, a purchase at Fabergé will easily set you back a couple thousand, at least. Small egg pendants retail for $8,000, and cocktail rings and earrings from the Les Précieuses collection go for $19,500. And then there's the Romanov collar that's made of 186.85 carats of emeralds and 98 carats of diamonds—that one is several million. We're presuming a good chunk of that profit goes toward paying a fleet of high-end security officers.
