How to Get Invited to the Christian Louboutin Sample Sale

If you've been following New York's sample sale scene for a while, you know that the Christian Louboutin sale is never, ever open to the public. To shop, you need an invitation, and there's often a guard at the door checking IDs. But when the sale opened to friends and family this morning, there were over 100 people in line. Who are these lucky shoppers?

Basically, there are two ways into the sale. Either you have to work in the industry, or you have to know an employee. A source who belongs in the latter camp tells us that each year, Louboutin staffers are given a certain number of spaces on the guest list. They can invite their friends, their families, their favorite customers—it's at their discretion. If you're on the list, you'll get an email from your contact asking you to RSVP. Bring that email—along with identification—on your designated shopping day, and you'll be granted entry.

Usually, the Louboutin sale gets easier to enter as the week goes on, starting with extra-special VIPs on Monday, broadening to include press by Wednesday, and allowing friends and family to shop Thursday and Friday. This time around, though, they've flipped the script. We hear that today's the day for regular shoppers, meaning that for once, non-VIPs get first dibs. (Well, second dibs; somebody was in there yesterday.) Tomorrow, the sale is supposedly closed, and then it will re-open on Thursday and Friday.

The takeaway from all this? You could go wait on W. 38th Street in the rain all day today, but you probably won't get much out of it. If you don't work in fashion and you want to enter the rarefied world of Louboutin sale shoppers, the best thing you can do is befriend a store employee.
