According to Footwear News, Downtown Brooklyn's retail scene is on the verge of an upgrade, which will happen once the almighty Barclays Center arrives. Adidas has already signed on for a location inside the stadium, and a few other stores have recently been added to the neighborhood rumormill. Faith Hope Consolo, chairman of Prudential Douglas Elliman, is anticipating a "retail renaissance" for Downtown Brooklyn, which FN compares to "the one surrounding the renovation of Madison Square Garden in Manhattan." (Which renaissance was that again?)
Consolo adds that Lululemon, Y-3, and Intermix are also looking at the neighborhood. She explains: "Brooklynites are starved for major brands and chains." Call us crazy, but maybe this whole "renaissance" idea is really just Jay-Z's well-marketed rouse to get some stores Beyoncé likes closer to the stadium.
