The Meatpacking District's shift from high-end to mass-market fashion has been a recurring story this year, so maybe it's not a surprise that Ugg has plans to join the party. The Australia-obsessed boot brand will be opening at 405 W. 14th Street this fall, according to Women's Wear Daily.
Ugg president Connie Rishwain says of the neighborhood: "It reminded me of Soho when we chose Soho six years ago. Apple was going in around the corner. We were early to open in Soho when we did." She thinks the space will attract a different crowd from the people who line up outside the Mercer Street location. Given the proximity of the High Line and MePa's changing demographics, though, it doesn't seem like tourists should have any trouble finding the place.
