New York City has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around our fantastic city that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Theodore Yemc is a 2007 graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, where he studied fashion and graduated with a BFA in printmaking. Hailing from Newtown, Connecticut, he recently launched CHIEF, a line of pocket squares and handkerchiefs. The 2012 collection takes inspiration from the classic American color palette, with a prominence placed on good ol' reds, whites, and blues. He recently told us about Winn Home & Beauty, his favorite spot to ride a mechanical pony after shopping.
Winn Home & Beauty is my favorite neighborhood discount store in Carroll Gardens. I was there just yesterday looking for a scrub-brush and instead found the Oink Oink microwave bacon tray and an inflatable pool lounge chair. Who has a pool in NYC? You can get a six-piece set of stemless wine glasses, a turkey baster, and a hammer in the same aisle. It's like a CVS, Target, PetSmart, Staples, and Lowe's all packed into one. On top of all of that, there's a mechanical pony outside the front door! Unfortunately, by the time I was finished shopping, I had no quarters left for a ride.
