This year, the annual Flower Show at Macy's in Herald Square was filled with exotic plants, Brazilian dancers, and even planting lessons. Exciting as that was, the department store is now ready to prep for the main event: It's upcoming Brasil: A Magical Journey promotion. WWD reports that the promo took the department store a year to put together, which included them flying out to São Paulo and hand-selecting 18 Brazilian companies to participate.
According to Executive VP Molly Langenstein, the showcase will include "products rarely, if at all, seen in the U.S.," as well as designer collaborations with U.S.-based designers like Rachel Roy, Carlos Falchi, and Francisco Costa of Calvin Klein. But the highlight of it all will be the O Mercado market, which will carry 100 exclusive or limited-edition items imported from or influenced by Brazil in all categories: fashion, beauty, home items, art, food, and more.
As far as what you'll be able to shop, expect everything from dresses to espadrille booties from Rachel Roy and Seu Jorge, who teamed up for a limited-edition line. Carlos Falchi's collection will include reversible nylon bags lined with prints inspired by his paintings, as well as scarves and pareos. And since this is Brazil, there will be plenty of bikinis, but designer Cecilia Prado says they've made them a little different. "We had to use the American cut which is different from a Brazilian. We made the shape of the bikini a little bit bigger than the normal one."
Look for the O Mercado market to pop up on the department store's main floors on April 22nd, with the rest of the promo to follow on May 16. Best of all, 10% of the sales from the market will go toward protecting the Amazon Rainforest.
