New York City has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around our fantastic city that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Douglas Hand is a founding member of HBA LLP, a bi-costal legal firm focused on intellectual property law with an emphasis on fashion. He's represented companies like Rag & Bone, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Steven Alan, and Yigal Azrouël, and also acts as a member of the Business Advisory Committee of the CDFA, as well as the CFDA's fashion incubator program. From time to time, he drops into Around the World Fashion Publications, a magazine shop on West 40th Street that, according to recent sources, may be closing sometime soon.
I like to check out Around the World Fashion Publications from time to time, as it is on the same block as my firm's offices, to browse the soaring racks and random piles of magazines and books. Where else can you get current issues of Dansk, Glass, Bloom, WAD, L'Officiel and FMR Black Edition? They also carry books on trends, draping, patterns, anatomy, color, accessories and other more obscure design elements. It's nice, after getting so much content on a screen all day, to be reminded that print media isn't entirely dead. Given its Fashion District location, it's also a diverting spot to bump into industry people and allow the conversation to continue into Bryant Park if the weather permits.· Around the World Fashion Publications [Official Site]
