New York City has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around our fantastic city that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Irene Pappas is a member of the PR team at Donna Karan, where her job includes working with global editors to secure fashion credits in the top US and international publications as well as dealing with the chaos of New York Fashion Week. She recently dip-dyed her locks at Soho salon Laicale and with the first-hand approval of the one and only DKNY PR Girl, she hasn't looked back.
I am a fan of the dip-dye and I recently went from a blonde dip-dye to a bright purple one. My stylist is the lovely Takako and she is pretty much up for anything. Some of my favorite things (outside of Takako's expert cut and color skills) are the amazing scalp massages, chic interior and plethora of international fashion magazines available. I also adore the full line of exclusive products they offer in store and online.
As a member of the Donna Karan Public Relations Team, I am fortunate to be at a job that both appreciates and requires fashion forward thinking. There is a fine line, however, and I was worried four inches of bright purple hair had crossed it. One could imagine that I was kind of nervous doing the purple dip dye RIGHT before Fashion Week, but I had all the confidence in the world in my stylist and I went for it. I got really positive reactions, perhaps the most important one being from @DKNYPRGirl herself.· Laicale [Official Site]
