Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Beginning on Monday, the entire stretch of Avenue of the Americas between 41st and 42nd Street will become home to the NFL Shop at Draft—a massive pop-up shop (actually, two) packed with NFL and sports apparel. Technically, the shop doesn't take up the entire block, because the MetLife building is sandwiched in the middle. Hopefully, they like football.
Inside, you'll find everything from NFL jerseys to sweatshirts, pajamas, and jewelry. The shop will sell merchandise from NFL licensees like Nike, New Era, Under Armour, GIII, VF, and Wilson, so if you don't really want a Jets bedazzled T-shirt (why not?), you can buy yourself some Under Armour leggings. Starting Tuesday, the pop-up will also be the only place where football fans can see all 32 NFL teams' New Era Draft Caps and 32 new Nike jerseys. And that's not all—there's toast.
When we stopped by for a press preview yesterday, a handful of items caught our eye. First, the fuzzy boots from Cuce Shoes ($145), and perhaps most importantly, the ProToast toaster from Pangea Brands that will emblazon your bread with your favorite team's logo ($39.99—worth it). On the cuter side, we spotted a Giants Mr. Potato Head ($20) and a 2012 NFL Draft Day Gnome ($24.99) that we'd consider putting on our lawn if we had one. We also spotted necklaces with team logos made out of kukui nuts by Style Pasifika ($24.99), which we hear are all the rage with the player's wives.
The ribbon-cutting event will be held at 10:45am on Monday, and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, along with current and former players, will be doing the cutting. After he does that, Goodell will then work as a store employee from 11am to 12pm, so you probably don't want to miss that.
