New York City has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around our fantastic city that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Named one of Time Out New York's style icons, DJ Mel DeBarge is a go-to DJ for the fashion elite. His diverse clientele has included Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, Giorgio Armani, Louis Vuitton, and Tiffany, and he's done private events for clients such as President Bill Clinton, Heidi Klum and Vogue. Plus he's held residencies at New York spots like 1OAK, Avenue, PH-D at The Dream, The Darby Downstairs, and SL—always looking his best, of course.
There's a great store called Nypull on Lafayette and Prince in Soho. The store owner is a very nice lady who finds up-and-coming designers, so there will always be items stocked that you can buy and can also be certain that nobody else will have them. She's really onto something! She finds new designers with new ideas that eventually end up setting the trends of the future, so if you like being ahead of the game, you should definitely pop by. I love going to Nypull and getting leather jackets and button-downs and they also stock great shoes and accessories for woman at affordable prices.· Nypull [Official Site]
