Samantha Pleet's New Shoes Are Named After Famous Women

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Some reasons to appreciate Samantha Pleet's forthcoming collection with Wolverine: It's the boot company's first collab for women. It brings together an 125-year-old Michigan brand with a label that launched in Williamsburg in 2006, so it's got that heritage thing happening but it's still quite modern. And it consists entirely of shoes inspired by historical women like Amelia Earhart, Danish author/baroness/explorer Karen Blixon, and red-headed 18th century lady-pirate Anne Bonny. Look for it in stores next fall.
