Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Furniture brand Pier 1, the nation's go-to spot for papasan chairs, just signed a lease for a three-floor space at Third Avenue and 65th Street. The move will double the number of current Pier 1 locations in Manhattan, but more importantly, it will mark the return of the chain to the Upper East Side. Pier 1's previous Third Avenue store, which was farther uptown at 87th Street, closed during the recession after nearly two decades in business. The new shop will occupy the basement, ground floor, and second level of The Chatham, a condo designed by starchitect Robert A. M. Stern.
