Depending on how you look at it, Williamsburg is totally over—or it's finally arrived. The New York Post reported this morning that Whole Foods is moving in. Rather than setting up shop near the river, as rumored last summer, the grocery will be coming to 242 Bedford Avenue at N.4th Street, taking over the ground floor and basement of a building that will contain luxury apartments. The development will also house a New York Sports Club situated partly on the first floor and partly upstairs.
Of course, at this point, anyone bemoaning the arrival of corporate grocery stores and gym chains has probably moved to Bushwick. And Whole Foods is actually a step up from what was originally slated for the site: a Marshalls and a CVS.
