Whole Foods has officially cleared the final obstacle in the path of its Gowanus store. According to Brownstoner, this afternoon the Board of Standards and Appeals voted unanimously to give the company its building variance, and a Whole Foods rep says they'd like to start construction "as soon as possible."

The Gowanus site has been the source of drama ever since Whole Foods bought it in 2004. To put the time that's elapsed since then into context: that was the same year Britney Spears married Kevin Federline.
