Barneys has announced that they've extended the warehouse sale to next Sunday, March 4th. That could mean they're also putting off the really good markdowns, but it definitely gives you plenty of time to take second look. After Sample Sally reported the initial markdowns at the Barney's Warehouse Sale, we dropped in yesterday to check out the progress, and we found the racks a little more full than previously thought. Call it the second time around charm or call it not having to fight for your life to check out size four pants (or whatever), but the sale is worth a second, calmer look.
Initially, seeing all the top floor registers completely deserted gave us shivers and the state of the fitting room made us go white in horror. It was so...clean. But the 3:1 staff-to-shopper ratio carried over from the fitting room to the floor, meaning stellar organization on the racks.
In the women's section, we rediscovered a lot of the same from our first visit, but we uncovered a ton of different pieces from The Row, Derek Lam, Helmut Lang, Alexander Wang, MM6, A.P.C., and Opening Ceremony, which were probably at the bottom of some bin in the dressing room during the first go-around. If these sound like your aesthetic, be sure to head on over. On the designer rack, a couple hand-woven hooded coats by Céline remained along with Balenciaga turtlenecks, Valentino leather jackets, and more Jil Sander items. Again, all of these haven't been fully marked down yet, so even though you might want to wait, there's nothing wrong with preparing yourself for when prices start to fall.
And take note, gifted stain removers, crafters, and sowers: The damaged item rack (which remember is a whopping 50% off) is looking more robust. The last days of the sale will hopefully prove more worthwhile overall, but the "imperfects" section remains the only really good deal so far with the likes of Marni, Rag & Bone, The Row, Alexander Wang, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and MM6 scattered among the tarnished and broken.
As for the men, their racks were still fully stocked. Sweaters from Band of Outsiders, A.P.C., and Alexander Wang can be had for under $100 thanks to the 25% markdown. Otherwise, stuff that was pretty steep a few days ago is still pretty steep.
To wrap up: Prices are still high, the shoe section still isn't spectacular, and the designer pickings are still slim—but the pickings aren't as slim as we thought before. There are deals to be had, so we recommend using the sale extension to take a second look while waiting for larger price cuts.
