Just in time for Valentine's Day, The Shiny Squirrel pops up inside the Erica Tanov boutique at 204 Elizabeth Street. The pop-up transports shoppers to the wonderful world of Alice in Wonderland with plenty of gifts to browse displayed on teacups, paper crowns, and playing cards. As you may have guessed, the installation, created by Domestic Construction, is a take on the classic Queen of Hearts.
If you know indie designer showcase and PR firm Shiny Squirrel from their previous pop-ups, you'll know the merchandise: Wearable, none-too-pricey artisanal pieces ranging from a set of delicate crystal earrings by Species by the Thousands for $20 to a rope-handled duffel bag by A'N'D'D Bags for $316.
The store might be a gift shop, but don't be surprised if you wind up gifting yourself. The bracelets, turbans, ties, and cufflinks for sale "can be something for you to dress up with for your date on Valentine's Day," says Shiny Squirrel owner Jessica Goldfond. It all kicks off tonight with a reception from 6pm to 8pm complete with tea sandwiches and blood orange cocktails. Should you feel like some whimsical festivity, be sure to stop by—if your heart desires.—Anne Ebani
