The Top 10 Stories of 2012: Hot Trainers, Hipster Weddings, More

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

As the final days of 2012 trickle by, we're taking a look through our archives to determine the top ten stories of the year. We've weeded out all of our massive sample sale lists, and the result is an eclectic mix of topics: from hipster weddings to hottest trainers to the 38 best beauty salons and spas. Note that the stories listed below were the most read, and not necessarily made of the most breaking news, which is why you probably won't be too surprised when you see what number 1 was.

5. Ten Consignment Shops Every Sample Sale Junkie Should Know
For those of you who spent a good portion of this year buying things at sample sales that you'd later regret, we give you a place to get rid of them: the city's ten best consignment shops.

4. NYC's Hottest Trainer Round 2: Natalie Raitano vs. Kara Liotta
Things got heated when we pitted Natalie Raitano from Barry's Bootcamp against FlyBarre's Kara Liotta. In total, that poll got 10,819 votes.

3. NYC's Hottest Trainer Round 1: The First Group of Women
What we've learned so far in this top ten list is that you guys really like looking at women in minimal clothing.

2. Eleven Great Bridal Shops Beyond Kleinfeld and Bergdorf
During our second-annual Weddings Week, we compiled a list of bridal boutiques beyond the old standbys. Since it was our second top story of the year, congratulations seem to be in order for all of our newlywed readers.

1. A Brief Conversation With a Topless New Yorker About Her Outfit
Remember Moira Johnston, the woman who spent most of the summer walking around the East Village topless? Roving photographer Atisha Paulson just so happened to bump into her, and spoke with her—briefly, of course—about her outfit. Interestingly enough, she didn't feel comfortable revealing where she bought her shoes.
