New York City has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around our fantastic city that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Adam Selman graduated from Pratt Institute with a BFA in fashion design. He began his career as an assistant, designing tour costumes for Britney Spears, Michael Jackson, and Lady Gaga. He's since branched out on his own, and is currently busy working with and designing for Rihanna's "Diamonds" world tour, and her River Island collection that's set to debut at London Fashion Week. Here, the he shows his favorite vendor at The Garage Flea Market in Chelsea.
Janet West's booth at the Garage Flea Market is one of my favorite spots in New York City. I've been shopping at her booth for years, and she's a staple in the flea market world. My studio is a few blocks away and it's always a guilty pleasure to go check out what she has. Her stock is constantly changing, but curated with her special touch. Last year I bought an embroidery of a naked S&M leather daddy made in the '70s for my boyfriend. I cried when I gave it away. Her prices are always reasonable, and I've bought so many of my favorite pieces from her.
