New York City has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around our fantastic city that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Carla Harshman lives in Williamsburg and works as a freelance makeup artist. New to the industry, she left her job as an event planner at the Wall Street Journal less than a year ago to pursue her passion of working in the beauty industry. Since then, she's worked with Bergdorf Goodman, Calvin Klein, Neiman Marcus, and more, as well as with magazines like GQ, Lucky, Nylon and Vogue. Here, she shows us her favorite spot on West Broadway for hard to find beauty products.
Working as a freelance makeup artist, I want and need the best beauty and skincare products, and the absolute best live in a magical place called Thompson Alchemists tucked away in Soho. There are two stores, one on Thompson Street and one on West Broadway. The West Broadway location is a goldmine for hard-to-find beauty and skincare gems. Must haves include: Nuxe Dry-Oil (it will change your life), and Homeoplasmine, a magical ointment that soothes dry, red, and chapped skin. Aside from exceptional customer service, killer skincare, and your average miracle product, Thompson Alchemists carry everything from false eyelashes to fragrance, so it's the ultimate one-stop-shop for any beauty lover—it too will become a favorite of yours, guaranteed.
