As 2012 draws to a close, we're surveying our friends in the fashion industry about the year's biggest news stories and most exciting developments. Earlier today, we looked at the best trends; now, we've asked our experts to weigh in on their favorite purchases of the year. Readers, let us know what you think (and feel free to add your own) in the comments below.
J.Crew Etta cap-toe pumps
Shana Tabor, store owner of In God We Trust: Mara Hoffman sequin pants—they're incredible. Also a pair of Acne sneakers that were way too expensive but totally worth it. I also bough a house in the Hudson Valley, that's pretty cool too!
Lindsey Green, fashion publicist: My mom has begged me to get a new coat for 10 years. This year, I finally gave in and got a bright red, super feminine, winter coat from Maje. I'm really proud to say it's one of the greatest things I've ever wrapped around myself in coat form.
Jen Mankins, store owner of Bird: It's not too often that I shop anywhere except Bird (well okay—maybe a little bit in Paris and Tokyo!) but my favorite purchase of 2012, maybe even of my entire life, was the Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama collaboration totebag in yellow.
I'm not organized enough to ever get on a waitlist, but luckily one day I was walking in Soho and saw the bag in the window and it was the first day it had arrived. I couldn't help but buy it, and I got a matching make-up case in blue! Probably my first and last LV purchase.
Faith Hope Consolo, Chairman of the Retail Group for Douglas Elliman Real Estate: Bling, bling and more bling...
Karin Bereson, store owner of No.6: The perfect pair of destroyed vintage jeans.
Kay Lee, store owner of Otte: Isabel Marant high top sneakers in black. We're beginning to carry Isabel Marant for spring and are already anticipating a wait-list for the sneakers!
Mizhattan, fashion blogger: Black ankle-strap Gianvito Rossi stilettos.
Eddy Chai and Paul Birardi, store owners of Odin: A bunch of reasonably priced, fun and cheery tees from Thalia Surf shop in Laguna Beach.
Kirsten Fleming, fashion writer at the New York Post: The greatest new addition to my wardrobe is a pair of neon orange Etta pumps from J.Crew. So many people stop me when I'm wearing them that I'm considering carrying mace. They might as well come with built in cat callers. Men love them.
The Shophound, fashion blogger: Anything from Mark McNairy or Ian Velardi. We're officially obsessed.
Morgan Yakus, store owner of No.6: I almost always wear No.6 or vintage, so I would have to say my favorite thing of 2012 would be my monogrammed L.L. Bean overnight bag. It was a gift.
