At yesterday's preview of the Yigal Azrouël and Cut25 sample sale, it wasn't the designer's signature dresses that took center stage. Instead, it was the outerwear and leather. From wool bombers to leather-sleeved blazers, there are plenty of options from the pre-fall and fall collections to choose from for the cold months ahead. But they don't come cheap.
Over in the Yigal Azrouël section, fur is $695, leathers are $500, leathers with shearling are $700, other coats are $400, and blazers are $225. However, prices drop in the next half of the room where Cut25's leather jackets are $350, furs are $400, coats are $275, and blazers are $200. While a cranberry leather jacket from the namesake line would last you forever, Cut25's blazer with leather shoulder panels and a leopard-print fur vest are equally enticing.
There's also an assortment of tops, skirts, pants, and dresses that deserve your attention. One big draw of the sale is that many of the items available are currently being sold at higher prices online. For example, a cable-knit cream sweater that's $665 on Shopbop is here for $150.
The best bet for those looking for a deal seems to be the sample racks for both lines. When you first walk in to the room, you'll find a lot of one-of-a-kind, never produced designs from Yigal priced at a mere $50. Not only that, but the samples range from sizes 2 to 6, so more than a select few might get lucky. Though there's less of a selection for Cut25 samples in the back, they're being offered for a jaw-dropping $30—about the price of a pedicure.
As of yesterday, the men's section was pretty meager. There are only two racks of dress shirts, sweaters, pants, and jackets—with plenty of space on each. If you're a guy and you happen to be brought along to the sale with a female shopper, it wouldn't hurt to look—but it probably isn't worth the trip if you plan on going alone.
Overall, the sale is very organized and price lists are easy to read. In particular, Cut25's sticker chart used different colored and shaped stickers that coordinated with the same sticker on the tag. In addition, items were well divided based on style, but women were already taking piles of clothes and sticking them on different racks to try on. There are no dressing rooms, so you'll have to use one of the mirrors set up throughout—just make sure to steer clear of the men.
The sale runs from 9am to 7pm today and tomorrow at 225 W. 39th Street. Consult the dealfeed for more details.
