Lingerie lovers have been storming the Hanky Panky sample sale at Chelsea Market since 11am this morning, and we expect that to continue for the rest of the day. The wait to get in was about thirty minutes long when we popped in at 1pm, and the line was only growing when we left about forty minutes later.

The sale is essentially divided in two: Part one being the famously coveted thongs, and part two being everything else. Thongs, which you order on the lower level by color and rise, are $11 each. That's less than half off retail, but still a good enough deal to have people queued up down the block. Once you place your order, you can retrieve the thongs at a desk by the checkout area.

Everything else is housed in bins and on racks, sorted by size and price, on the upper level. There are four rows of bins containing bras, bralettes, bandeaux, boy shorts, bikini-cut panties, and miscellaneous bridal lingerie. Bright colors and prints dominate these styles, and the few neutrals scattered throughout are going quickly. Discounts here are much deeper: Bralettes and bras are $15 and $22, down from their $70 to 108 retail prices.

The racks are populated with camis, tanks, short- and long-sleeved tops, chemises, babydolls, teddies, and sleepwear. Chemises and babydolls are the most deeply discounted—steals at $25—and are moving fast. The sleepwear also looked heavily picked over. Small sizes are also being snatched up quickly, but many of them have been misplaced on the racks, so a little hunting goes a long way to finding desired sizes.

When you're ready to pay, expect to wait in line for about half an hour. The checkout line seemed to be moving especially slowly because ladies are buying merchandise by the armful. But don't worry: The sale's staff assured us that their stock is being replenished daily.—Mallory Farrugia
