This week, Alexandra Jacobs reviews the new 39,000-square-foot shoe salon at Macy's. She says it's a bit of a misnomer: "I don't know about you, but I tend to think of a 'salon' as an intimate pastel-carpeted, gilt-edged place with soft lighting, murmuring clerks and perhaps the pleasant tinkle of teacups in the background. This is not that. It might be better described as a 'shoe zoo.'" [NYT]
