Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

DNAinfo surveyed local Halloween store owners and determined that Batman characters, zombies, and vampires will all be big this year. Also huge: "That Asian guy with a tux. The one who dances," as Tony Bianchi of Halloween Adventure told the website. Korean pop star Psy of the internet sensation "Gangnam Style" hasn't been famous for long, but his blue tux should be everywhere come Halloween.

Meanwhile, we're told that the top costumes at mega pop-up Spirit Halloween include The Avengers, the Hunger Games, and, oddly enough, the Power Rangers. (It's their 20th anniversary, and apparently they're still huge with little kids.) Fifty Shades of Grey is also popular, but the costumes aren't licensed, so they're known euphemistically as "Bound for Pleasure."

Spirit is opening almost 1,000 seasonal costume shops this year, with 20 in New York and a flagship at 766 Sixth Avenue. That's the former home of the American Apparel Warehouse Sale, which recently moved to Soho—and, come to think of it, isn't a bad option for Halloween costumes either.
