The Hugo Boss Showroom Sale Probably Isn't Worth the Trek

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We stopped by the Hugo Boss showroom this afternoon for a spot check on what remains at their sample sale, which is conveniently located on 12th Avenue and is only open during business hours. While the sales floor is far from barren, the selection is extremely limited. In light of Boss's overstock sale kicking off this weekend at the more centrally-located Soiffer Haskin, we're convinced that there's no point in trekking over to West Chelsea in the middle of a work day to scope this one out.

If you're a guy who wears size 32 pants, a 40R jacket, and size 10 shoes and you happen to be in the neighborhood, you might as well sneak a peek. The sale remains orderly, brightly lit, and chock full of fitting room space. Sleek suits for $275 and sports coats for $175 are available in a variety of autumnal fabrics and are definitely the highlight. We were also pleasantly surprised to see a massive array of ties for $25 a pop. In our past experience, the tie selection is usually more limited and doesn't survive the first day of a Boss sample sale. Dress shirts and shoes were extremely limited, and there were all kinds of odds and ends among the knitwear and casual offerings by the Boss Orange label for under the $100 mark.

As for the ladies, nearly everything available is a size 4 and is pretty lackluster. We did like a few items in theory, but they were all stained or extremely awkwardly cut. The only items worth checking out are the work trousers in wools and silks for $40, but we didn't love any of the styles. All that said, we spied an awesome full-length fuchsia jumpsuit for $110 that we would love for a reader to take home.

Like the rest of you, we are totally curious to see what's available at the Soiffer Haskin sale this weekend. We heard rumors from showroom staffers that the Soffier Haskin sale will have a full selection of sizes and many more styles, naturally with a focus on offerings for the guys. Of course the best part is that the sale kicks off on a Saturday morning, so even 9-to-5-ers have a chance of snagging the best goods this time around.

The Hugo Boss showroom sample sale continues today until 5pm and tomorrow, October 4th from 9:30am to 5pm at 601 West 26 St (between 11th and 12th Avenues), Suite 845. After that, get your Hugo Boss fix at Soiffer Haskin's overstock sale—details in our dealfeed. —Kiran
