If you've got a loved one who works at Lord & Taylor, you might want to save them some leftovers this Thanksgiving. The department store surprised fellow New York retailers by announcing that it plans to stay open all day on Thursday, November 22nd. Why? Because that's the day Manhattan will be filled with visitors in town to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. As such, only the midtown flagship will stay open—other Lord & Taylor locations around the country are exempt from the new policy.

Ironically, Macy's itself will be closed that day, as will the rest of the city's big department stores. A Macy's source said to Women's Wear Daily, "It's parade day. We wouldn't do that to our employees." But a spokesperson from Lord & Taylor assures the paper that anyone working that day will make holiday pay, and that they're only taking people who've volunteered for the job. (Volunteers will also get some flexibility on their Black Friday schedules, which might be a major incentive.) The department store also plans to donate a portion of the day's proceeds to charity.
