The brand new Versace boutique has officially soft-opened on Mercer Street, beating the upcoming Saint Laurent and Balenciaga stores by a landslide. Though the new location was only announced three weeks ago, the space has already been filled with marble mosaic floors, sleek white fixtures, and racks of merchandise suspended from the ceiling.
Women's Wear Daily spoke with Donatella Versace, who explained the concept of the store: "The brand has a rock soul. The store is a small jewel and fits with this area and its young, bohemian mood." The marble floors, however, are "deeply Italian."
The shop will also host a collection of limited-edition items sourced from various designers and artists, picked by Donatella herself. First up is a collection from Christopher Kane, who co-designs the Versus collection. For his part, Kane will offer golden earphones bearing the brand's Medusa head, tee shirts with archival Versace images, and even a board game called "Medusa & Greca."
