New York City has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around our fantastic city that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

I love Wonderland Beauty Parlor. Sure, you can pop by for one of the best haircuts in the city from owner Michael Angelo, but I'm always pulled to the interesting mix of beauty and trinkets in the salon's shop. Anyone who stages his space with a Takashi Murakami Flower Cushion and scratch-and-sniff wallpaper immediately has my attention.
Among cases of kitschy jewelry and a selection of high-end art and interior design coffee table books, you'll find a well-curated offering of beauty items that Angelo stands behind—for instance, my faves, the highly pigmented OCC Lip Tars and will-withstand-the-apocalypse Rubotan Liquid Liner. If you have a nose for beauty items that aren't easily found and are looking for pros to back up product claims, this is a fun shopping experience—whether you got your hair did or are just passing by after a few drinks at any number of the neighboring Meatpacking spots.
