Why is Mercer Street between Houston and Prince such a hot spot all of a sudden? For years, the block has housed boutiques from Marc Jacobs, Vera Wang, and Marni, plus the back of the Prada store, but now it's adding luxury tenants Balenciaga, Saint Laurent, and Versace. The Shophound tries to pinpoint the source of this new-found popularity: "Maybe the spaces were right, maybe they got the best deals there, or maybe, like some kind of weird fashion jinn, the Marc Jacobs store lured them there through trickery or sheer alpha-fashion-male magnetism."
