After starting her namesake label
12 16 years ago, Monique Lhuillier has finally debuted her first Manhattan store on the Upper East Side. The two-story townhouse includes a bridal salon on the second floor and accommodates all of the designer's collections: ready-to-wear, shoes, tabletop, and even chandeliers. Though best known for wedding gowns, Lhuillier plans to grow her collections far beyond nuptials. She explained to Women's Wear Daily: "The customer gets married once in her life. I want her to think of Monique Lhuillier multiple times a year, to come in if she just wants something special."
The strategy appears to be working so far, since the store's first sale was a fur and lace jacket from the ready-to-wear line. However, that doesn't mean bridal is taking a backseat anytime soon. Lhuillier mentioned that within the second day of opening, the bridal salon was completely booked with 43 appointments. She adds, "We feel like this is a good time for us to be here."
