It may have taken a little longer than expected, but the Brian Atwood store on Madison Avenue is finally open. WWD toured the space with the designer himself, who referred to it as, among other things, a "posh salon." He explained: "It's the chicest haven for women who love shoes."
And it seems that the wait may have been worth it. Atwood also compared the store design to "a Fabergé egg," with its purple Venetian-plaster walls, gray velvet seats, and marble quartz floors. Vitrines scattered throughout the store feature some of the more expensive items, like custom $4,500 Swarovski Elements pumps and a $3,400 black leather minaudière, decorated with gold spikes.
Customers who purchase a pair of shoes from the salon will also find a small gold plaque on the bottom of the shoes that reads "655 Madison," a special little touch that Atwood plans to implement in all his new boutiques. As mentioned above, the store also stocks a collection of handbags, and in November, a six-piece jewelry collection will debut exclusively at the Madison Avenue store and on the website. That will include chokers and cuffs, and possibly, another sexy ad.
