Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Ladies and gentlemen, it is now time to unveil the winners of the 2012 Racked Awards for New York City. Our champions across 11 categories represent the best of retail in New York, a city that is not exactly known for having low fashion standards. Because they work hard and they're good at what they do, we hereby celebrate them as true style superheroes, even if none of them would be caught dead in a red nylon cape.
Before we list the names, though, let's go over the rules and logistics. For six of the below categories, we asked readers to choose between a pre-determined list of nominees. For the remaining five, we made the decision ourselves after much deliberation. Nominees and winners alike will be feted at a party tonight in Manhattan. Those winners that couldn't make it should watch their mail for their coveted prize, a turquoise mannequin head bearing the official golden turban of the Racked Awards. And now, without further ado, the winners in New York.
