Signs of Céline's arrival at Madison Avenue and 71st Street have been teasing and taunting us since April, but today WWD casually mentions that the store is slated to open by the end of this month. We had heard a few months back (via the construction workers inside of it) that the boutique was shooting for a December 2011 opening date, but naturally that came and went.
Perhaps the reason for the delay also has something to do with why Céline won't be hosting a runway show this year in Paris. Designer Phoebe Philo is expecting her third child in April, so the brand has decided to "downscale its presentation." Céline CEO Marco Gobbetti says that besides that, it's "business as usual," which we're happy to report means finally opening up that new Upper East Side store.
