Where This Photographer Finds Inspiration on Hudson Street

New York City has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around our fantastic city that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Constantly on the hunt for vignettes around the city that capture her eye, photographer Katya Moorman spends her time updating her website Style Defined NYC with images of street style snaps with a nightlife twist. She's been featured in Time Out New York, French Vogue, and i-D magazine, among others, and when she's not shooting, airbrushing, or sipping champagne she likes to find sartorial inspiration at Atelier New York, her favorite Greenwich Village shop.

Atelier New York is a boutique in Hudson Square that specializes in avant-garde/high end designers such as Ann Demeulemeester and Boris Bidjan Saberi. While technically a men's store, I love to shop here for myself for truly unique pieces with impeccable tailoring and details. If you're interested in a modern androgynous look or to style yourself as a chicer version of Lisbeth Salander you can definitely find inspiration at Atelier New York.
One of my favorite aspects of the store is the chance to speak with Karlo Steele, one of the owners. Not only is he extremely gracious and warm, his knowledge about every article of clothing, shoe and accessory is amazing. I've learned more about the techniques of different designers and their aesthetics from talking to him than I have from all my magazine subscriptions combined.
