New York City has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around our fantastic city that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Selima Salaun is the creative vision behind luxury eyewear line Selima Optique. She was born along the Mediterranean Coast, honed her craft in Paris, and eventually moved to New York City to manage the Alain Mikli boutique. She opened her first shop in Soho in 1993 and has been a resident of the neighborhood ever since. One of her favorite local haunts is The Pet Bar, a one-stop-shop for the health-conscious pet owner.
I love The Pet Bar on Thompson Street. It is one of my favorite pet stores with an impeccable selection and great customer service. The store is tiny and the staff absolutely loves animals. I have three dogs and two cats (I used to have ten pets) and I always try to support small businesses in my neighborhood as much as possible.
I found The Pet Bar simply by roaming around. I used to own a lingerie store on Thompson Street, so it's always nice to go for a nostalgic walk. Plus, since I live in Soho, it makes it easy for me since they deliver. I recently purchased a climbing/scratching tree for my cats here and they love it. Also, they have a great assortment of specialty foods for health-conscious pets?and owners.
