New York City has more stores than anyone could physically tackle, but somehow we always keep returning to the usual suspects. To break out of the rut, we've asked some local shopping and fashion gurus to provide their hidden retail gems—those unique stores around our fantastic city that we might not all know about. Cue the Beatles: We're about to get a little help from our friends.

Morgan Gibbons is a Brooklyn-based stylist who has worked with clients like La Perla. While she spends her days shopping for others, when she has the chance, she checks out Mafalda Vintage on Atlantic Avenue, where she once snagged a long chiffon skirt that she refuses to take off.

The only drawback of being a stylist is that even though I love shopping, since I do it daily for shoots and other people, I rarely have the energy to do it for myself. Thank goodness for the wonderful independent boutiques in my neighborhood of Brooklyn. One of my favorites is on Atlantic Avenue in Boreum Hill. Mafalda is a glorious vintage store opened by the devastatingly stylish Christina Kolbe, who just happens to be an ex-buyer for Steven Alan.
Christina stocks her store with a collection of meticulously curated pieces. She carries garments that she herself loves, and it shows. The last time I was in the store, I walked out with a gorgeous pair of high-waisted wool pants that look just like a pair I was coveting from Stella McCartney's F/W11 Collection, and a long chiffon paisley skirt that I've been wearing probably a bit too much, but just cant seem to take off. Since she's such a stylish girl herself, she knows exactly what the season's trends are, and stocks her store with the vintage pieces that give nods to them. Therefore, not only is every piece relevant, but also special and affordable.
