Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Last month, we learned via Bowery Boogie that the women's wing of arty Lower East Side boutique Project No.8 was shutting down. Now, the store's owners have gotten in touch to detail their new direction. The short version: They're moving their women's collection online so that they can focus more on their men's and travel stores. They're also planning to spend more time on Various Projects, the "making arm" of the company, starting with an exclusive line of menswear, accessories, and objects for Barneys in Tokyo.

By the end of this Summer, Project No. 8 will be letting their lease run out on their Division Street space, and after this, all of their women's lines will exist almost entirely on their soon-to-be re-launced online shop.
For the past 5 years, 138 Division Street has been a very large part of what we were doing and we feel very very happy with the way it developed. We are so grateful to all the designers and customers both for participating and feel tremendously lucky to have gotten to know them all through this space.
This was not an easy decision, as the Division Street location is the birthplace of Project No. 8, but after much deliberation it is clearly the right next step for us. Our desire is to focus our attention on some projects that have been put aside in the interim years, including a renewed concentration on the making arm of our studio, Various Projects, and to intensify the focus on both the men's and travel stores.
While we are very excited for this next phase, the biggest drawback is not working in the same capacity with our womenswear designers. However, we have already begun the discussion about future collaborations with these designers and we are very excited about some of the things coming next. In addition to these other collaborations, Various Projects will be work with Barney's New York in Japan to launch a special and exclusive collection of men's clothing, accessories, and objects to premier next Spring in Tokyo.
