The future of Catherine Malandrino has been uncertain for some time now. Most notably, the designer did not participate in New York Fashion Week this month, and just when it looked like Malandrino's financial woes might be solved, Women's Wear Daily reported in August on Kellwood Co.'s likely move to stop pursuing the brand as a financial acquisition.
As rumors continue to swirl about the designer's next move, it seems that Malandrino's Soho store is currently closed—though not permanently. A sign in all caps reads, "We apologize for any inconvenience. We are closed for inventory." The store was dark when we stopped by this afternoon, and we didn't see any workers inside stocking any racks or shelves. It looks like the fashion world can only wait for updates on the brand. In the meantime, Malandrino's Hudson Street location is open and ready to shop.—Katherine Park
