Adam Opens on Elizabeth Street

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Adam Lippes has joined the bevy of design stars on Elizabeth Street with a new Adam location. The 1,008-square-foot space houses Lippes's collection, which gracefully toes the line between conservative and edgy womenswear, as well as a series of books and furniture curated by the man himself.

The combo elicits the sense that you just walked into the boudoir of the grandmother you wish you had (you have to call it a boudoir because she's a lady). She's the well-traveled and well-read matron who's apt to whisk Adam's knee-length wool poncho (retailing at $795) down from her impeccably tailored, precisely edited rack with a nonchalant, "Here you are dahling; this would go perfectly with those leather boots I brought you from Buenos Aires last week." Dare to dream.

Fashionable and benevolent grandmothers aside, Lippes's work-appropriate yet street-friendly dresses are going to run you anywhere from $295 to $395, while a cropped wool jacket goes for $345, and skirts—mini or knee—length—run from $245 to $345. If ever you tire from all the shopping, feel free to brush up on The Elements of Euclid, Japanese Design, or Victrola Favorites, among other tomes dispersed throughout the store.—Kenzie Bryant
